Inaugural Post - New York Fashion Week

James R. Sanders and Whitney Port from MTV's The City
For affluent fashion concerned individuals, nothing is more exciting in the US, than New York Fashion Week. Three years ago, I covered my first fashion show - it was Walter. The show was off premises, it wasn't even at Bryant Park, but I didn't care. To me, everything was fabulous and fashion fantasy. I eventually ended up in the tents at Bryant Park covering all kinds of shows and going to several parties. The whole thing was and is, one of the things that I most look forward to. But in the tradition of firsts, this is my first New York Fashion Week experience at the Lincoln Center. The only difference is that now, everyone else is in the same boat as me. This is the first time that fashion week is being done in the tents at the Lincoln Center. My attitude has been a bit inconsistent about this change. It takes some getting used to. It seems like just yesterday, I was at Walter, trying to get to Bryant Park. Once I got there, I loved it - and I still kind of miss it.

I will say that everything seems more streamlined now. Press are able to check in electronically, which eliminates all of the long lines. The shows all still start late - and run late. And the giveaways are getting smaller and smaller. Still, I am looking forward to the rest of the week. Thursday was Christian Siriano, and Project Runway just to name a few. Friday, I especially enjoyed Ports 1961 and George's Chakra, where I was actually able to meet the legendary Beverly Johnson!

Fashion Week is a cluster of schedulings, interviews, and reviews. Three years ago, a was freelancing for a small publication that has since went out of business. Now, I contribute to one of the largest publications in the world, and have taken on a market editor position at a new online publication - things have gotten uber-busy for me. Friday, I wore a long Bill Blass shirt, with a vintage Yves Saint Laurent tie. The picture is of myself and Whitney Port, star of MTV's The City. Her show was yesterday.
