A couple months ago, while sitting in my apartment and chatting it up with my non-blood related little brother, Erik King, I pitched a book query to a publisher that I stumbled upon while browsing the internet. I was talking to him while I was writing the pitch that I emailed to the editor at the publishing house. The concept for the book, was of course, fashion. I wasn't particularly crazy about the idea and I honestly just wanted to introduce myself as a way of networking. Well, the editor said she loved my pitch and she wanted to see a detailed outline and a sample chapter! This was fabulous news for me, especially when I didn't even pay too much attention to the query. In fact, I forgot that I sent it. It's funny how things can work out. I often wonder what worked about the query that didn't work for the novel that I am still trying to get published. Fiction is harder to sell - and I've been told that I can be too hard on myself. Anyway, that was months ago.
I did finish the outline which I am in love with, but I never finished the chapter! I am still planning to send it but I know that I have to get started ASAP! Here's the problem: First, I can't believe that the query got picked up. That's not to say that I am uncertain of my skill, or that I am not confident, but it still seems surreal. Secondly, I am intimidated by the opportunity. I want the chapter to do the outline and my pitch, justice. I want it to be light, funny, but not condescending. Thirdly, I have a problem with procrastination - when it comes to the big stuff - which is the pits!
My goal is to get everything to the editor by the end of this week. Today, is Monday, I am focused and motivated. Hopefully, I can write again on Friday saying that I was able to get it done. How fabulous would it be to have a fashion title on the shelves written by me?!?! OMG! What would I wear to the book launch party? I sooooo need options!
